About the Company
Art Blocks is a generative digital art platform founded in 2020 by technologist and artist Erick Calderon, known as Snowfro. Artists write algorithms, and each artwork is created when a collector mints it, producing a unique piece stored on-chain as an NFT. The platform serves artists, collectors and brands.
The project began with Calderon's Chromie Squiggle collection and has grown into several tiers. Curated is the flagship collection, Studio lets artists self-publish their own work, and Engine licenses the generative technology to brands and creators. The website says 90 percent of collections across Curated, Studio and Engine are fully on-chain, including their dependencies. Earlier programs included Factory, Playground, Collaborations, Explorations and Presents, which ran at various points between 2021 and 2024.
- Curated: the flagship, selectively released generative collections
- Studio: self-publishing platform for artists
- Engine: licensing of Art Blocks technology for brands and creators
- Art Blocks 500: a featured collection grouping in the Discover section
- Artist applications: a process for artists to apply to publish on the platform
- Technical documentation: public developer docs at docs.artblocks.io
Artists featured on the website include Snowfro, Jeff Davis, William Mapan, Jack Butcher, Larva Labs, Casey Reas, Michael Kozlowski, Ryley Oeth, Kazuhiro Tanimoto, LoVid and Licia He. Works have been shown through Art Blocks Presents, Art Blocks Studio, The Generative Art Museum and a Feral File partnership, and its journal covers events such as Art Basel Hong Kong 2026.
According to its website, the platform has offset over 25,230 tonnes of CO2 and facilitated more than 55 million dollars in charitable donations through artists and the platform. It also operates a gallery in Marfa, Texas.
